Cogdel Cranleigh School Changsha is a candidate school* for the PrimaryYears Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality,challenging, international education- that we believe is important for ourstudents.

Cogdel Cranleigh SchoolChangsha officially became an IB PYP candidate school in July 2020, and startedto implement the IB PYP program and strive to make the PYP happen. The IBPrimary Years Programme has been implemented since 1997 which is prepared byIBO, aiming for those 3 to 12-year-old students who have a long-term education need,meanwhile focusing on acquiring important knowledge, developing anunderstanding to key concepts, showing a positive attitude on study, masteringa basic skill on trans-disciplinary and taking a responsible action.


According to the requirements of the PYP programand the provisions of the national compulsory education stage, the curriculumstructure of the PYP is mainly composed of three courses: transdisciplinaryinquiry, stand-alone subject and activities.


1、      Program of Inquiry

POI is the core of PYP,and it is UOI when it is implemented to the teaching of each grade. It is arectangle array which is made up of by a longitudinal dimension of the 6trans-disciplinary themes (who we are, where we are in place and time, how weexpress ourselves, how the world works, how we organize ourselves and sharingthe planet) and a latitudinal one of students’ age groups, governing the wholecurriculum and activities in the programme. Students implement the UOI, drivenby seven key concepts—form, function, causation, change, connection,perspective, and responsibility.


2、      Stand-alone Subject

Stand-alone subjects reflect the common basicrequirements of various fields of study, and are compulsory courses for allstudents. The primary school program should compile specific subject scope andsequence around the National Primary School Subject Curriculum Standards as wellas the PYP Scope and Sequence, and use this as a guideline to reflect the basicrequirements of school-based disciplines.


3、      CCA(Co-Curricular Activities)

CCA focus on cultivating, stimulating anddeveloping students' interests and hobbies, developing students' potential,promoting the development of students' personality and the formation ofschool-running characteristics. It is a kind of open-ended course that reflectsdifferent basic requirements. CCA can include both varsity teams and co-oplessons.
